Thursday Updates

November 15, 2007

samsongbuilding1sml.jpg

Hi guys, I trust your week is going well and that everything is ok in your world.

Here’s the news so far this week ….

Firstly, the above picture was taking in Sansong-Dong of the I-Life building (I think that’s it’s name^^) - I particularly like this picture because of the chocolate coloured sky, and that the building looks like it is trying reach up to the starless sky. The detail in the building was brought out using a little Photoshop manipulation, but to tell you the truth it needed very little work in Photoshop.

Also, check out this amazing website - this comes from the Japanese Space Agency who managed to capture a video of the earth rising over the moon. (you can see it HERE) - What really touched me was the fact that as I watch the earth rise I really felt just how small we really are.

More news …. I have launched a photo blog over at Pixiblog for my semi-pro photography. You can check it out HERE Many of the photos I will put there you will have already seen here, but I will be putting larger versions of my photos over on my Photography blog.

Finally, for all my students - I have made available a short page on asking for and giving directions. You can download it here —–> giving-directions.pdf

Well, that’s it for now. Have a great Thursday and see you all tomorrow for more news and a comedy clip of the week :-)

Tuesday News Update

November 13, 2007

beatlesml.jpg

Hi guys I hope this week is going well for you :-)

The above picture was taken last Saturday night outside COEX Centre in Samsong-Dong. If you do not recognize the car it is a VW Beatle (old shape) and is a model of a crashed car. - I always think these cars look so ‘alive’ as if they have a personality.

OK, following last Friday’s comedy clip - some students (thank’s Alex!!) wanted me to write out the script. So, in order to help you all understand the the words, I have written out the script and you can download it here2-ronnies-sketch.pdf

Finally, if you are looking for some photo inspiration, check Joe McNally’s website. His photography is simply amazing and his portrait photography is incredible.

Friday News & Comedy Clip Of The Week ^^

November 9, 2007

autumnal-2.jpg

Another photo of Autumn (”Fall” for my American friends) Again taken at Seokchon Lake. I love the colour of Autumn. It makes me want to go out everyday taking pictures :-)

First up guys, here’s a great news item I found on the PC -v- Mac debate - Click here to read. It is quite long, but an interesting read all the same
:-)

Also, you Must check out this blog post by Seth Godin - Here he is talking about giving presentations and what you should not do. A must read for anyone giving a presentation in any language - English, Korean or Japanese. Click HERE

This week’s comedy clip comes from a British TV show called the Two Ronnies (Ronnie Corbett and Ronnie Barker - get it?) Here is a sketch where one guy (Ronnie Barker) with a strong provincial accent is ordering some items in a hardware store. Sit back, relax and listen to this quite simple English :-)

Well, that’s it for this post. Have a great weekend everyone and see you all next week :-)

I just love this picture - it captures the beauty of Autumn and the pavilion gives a fantastic Oriental feel.

Top Gear

November 8, 2007

For all my students who have heard me mention BBC’s Top Gear programme - Here is a video of this fantastic show.

From an English language learning point of view - Jeremy Clarkson uses English in a very imaginative way - he is very descriptive and uses comparatives like nobody else.

Enjoy the show. - To watch more of this show (you only get 10 minutes here) click on the video picture and it will take you to the main menu of You Tube)

Useful English Phrases

November 5, 2007

Hi guys and welcome to November, I hope the new month has started well for you all :-)

Here’s a sheet of useful phrases I prepared for the First Class Business course at BCM. I think all students of English will find this useful. Basically, you can use the word “Sorry” a lot in English. It is not only used as an apology, but can also be used to make something more polite.

Click here to get the sheet. uses-of-the-word-sorry.pdf

Weekend Laugh ^^

November 1, 2007

Ok, I will be away for a few days - I am off to China (again), but before I go I wanted to leaves you guys with a little laugh for the weekend.

Here is a clip from one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. “Life Of Brian” is a Monty Python movie and, well, take look. If this doesn’t make you laugh I don’t know what will.
