Hi,
I’m not sure how I found your blog, but I enjoyed your posts.
I’m also living in South Korea, and I’m originally from the UK. Can you help me understand mobile phones in this country. I noticed your posts about the iphone. I was once looking forward to getting an iphone for the first time, but I’ve been converted by the HTC hero.
I’m sure that if I buy a phone here, then it will be designed for a GSM band that can’t be used in the UK. However, if I bought a phone from outside South Korea (sim free), such as the new HTC hero, then would it work here?
Thanks for your time, and keep up the blog.

Hi Robert,
Thanks for the kind comments about my blog.
As far as I know, no phone bought in Korea is going to work on the UK network. Korea works on the CDMA (WCDMA) network, whereas the UK and most of Europe works on the GSM network. There is a possibility that a 3G phone in Korea might work on the UK network, but because of the unique nature of the Korean mobile phone operators, WIFI is unlikely to work in the UK.
Be careful, phones in Korea are about double the price they are in the UK.
I hope that is helpful.
